De Grey Rooms and House Underway

The stunning De Grey Rooms and House project is just a short walk from our office in the York centre.

The building dates back to 1841 and is an excellent example of early Victorian architecture, initially designed by architect George Townsend Andrews. The De Grey Rooms were instructed to be built by Thomas Philip de Grey, who was the 2nd Earl de Grey and colonel-command of the Yorkshire Hussar Regiment.

We are currently on site undertaking the upgrade works and re-decoration throughout the De Grey Rooms and House, ready for our Client York Conservation Trust to take up occupancy of their new city centre office.

Complete M&E works are underway to install new data, lighting, fire and security alarms.

Our skilled craftsmen are using traditional methods, using oak riven laths and lime plaster to repair water-damaged areas within the building.

Sepiolite Poultice has been applied to the lower levels of the building before re-plastering and decorating.

Our In-house joiners are carrying out the delicate task of refurbishing over 40 sashes and Yorkshire Sliding windows, including splice and resin repairs and re-weighting.

Externally the building will receive a full Doff clean, with the existing Newey clock getting a new coat of paint as part of the finishing works.
