Pinnacle Conservation Ltd were employed by Sir James and Lady Graham to carry out the structural repair and redecoration of the Grade II listed 17th Century clock tower at Norton Conyers. The Historic Houses Foundation awarded a generous grant toward the cost of these repairs.
Within the curtilage of the Grade II* Listed Norton Conyers House stands the magnificent Grade II* Listed Clock Tower. Following significant movement (360mm settlement to the west) Pinnacle were appointed to realign and restore the clock tower.
Phase one of the project involved the moving of the tower, with a series of pullies and jacks. A steel frame was then set vertically into the centre of the tower to create a strong core.
Phase two included the cupola removal, for assessment and repair, replacing lead work and timber.
Phase three involved the removal of the decaying/ rotten columns by the fitting of the new hand turned columns, along with the cleaning and reinstatement of the bell.
Phase four – Work to the clock face including where possible the salvaging of the timber. Paint colour matching and testing. The clock mechanics were repaired by Smith of Derby Ltd.
Phase five involved the re-gilding and refurbishment of the weathervane.
