Pinnacle has been appointed to undertake the meticulously cleaning the glass above the Grand Staircase and China Room at Castle Howard.
The Grand Staircase and China landing were created in the 1870s to provide an imposing entrance to the house, with the skylights providing an admired feature filling the area with natural light.
Over several years an accumulation of dust and dirt had started to build up above the glass, and was in need of extensive cleaning works.
A full scaffold was built over the grand staircase and landing, from there each 118 panes of Victorian etched glass were carefully lifted and transported to a temporary cleaning station on the octagon roof void, and placed back into their octagonal openings, with the installation of copper clips to securely hold them in place.
