Pinnacle Conservation Ltd were appointed as a specialist contractor to undertake the conservation of the historic masonry on the Grade II* Brierley Building, Northallerton. Constructed in phases from 1902, the building’s Neo-Wren Style façade with natural stone dressings and red English bond brickwork required sensitive work, adopting the minimal intervention approach to masonry consolidation and repointing. The repointing recipe and style needed to be altered to suit the era of original construction.
Low level elements of the façade had suffered badly from stone degradation and required the greatest attention including the replacement of
carefully selected pieces of stone along with low pressure steam cleaning to help remove the build up of biological growth on the façade.
